Louis Albrechts is Professor of Planning at the Department of Architecture, Urbanism and Planning, Catholic University of Leuven. He was formerly Visiting Professor at the universities of Newcastle upon Tyne, Lille and Poznan. Professor Albrechts has had long experience in strategic land use and transport planning for the Flanders region and in Europe. Professor Albrechts’ research interests include: the practice and nature of strategic spatial planning, the link between plan and implementation, planning as a creative process, issues of power in planning, the gap between plan-making, political decision-making and implementation, sustainability in strategic planning, and diversity in planning. Founder and co-editor of the international journal European Planning Studies, Professor Albrechts was Chairman of the first World Planning Schools Congress held in Shanghai and the second World Congress held in Mexico in 2006. He is a member and Past President of the Association of European Schools of Planning (AESOP).
